Costume Design: Clowning Around
It’s nearly Halloween, and I have the privilege of being able to create all the mascot costumes this year, as well as the ones in the Penguin Style. A reminder- the Penguin Style releases October 8th with new costumes! Now, for how I designed Rookie’s Clown costume. First, here’s a concept of what it will look like.
Very scary, indeed. I felt that Rookie would want to be something not as scary, but still Halloween-themed. This led to the concept of the Clowning Around costume for him.
This all started with a sketch of a clown wig with his propeller cap on it, as seen below.
The tough thing was position of the propeller cap. Was it right in the middle? Was it behind him? I felt that Rookie would never keep it straight up so I tilted it to the side to show that he’s always on the move. Now, the next part is colors.
I went through a few different palettes before deciding on the final color scheme. The final colors feel darker and spookier, and that’s just the theme I was going for. Easy enough, right? Try and plan your own outfit and tell me what you come up with. I may even add it in the Penguin Style! My costume will be Fashion43, the fashion that’s older than me. Creepy!
Fashion never has a break!
