Setting Sail

Hey penguins.

This blog post is a bit of a bumpy ride, so buckle up.

It’s been 11 years (give or take) since I started playing Club Penguin. I loved it when I started. Tracing the penguins on my old 5:4 monitor on the backs of my homework and waiting until midnight for the updates to launch and being so excited to play all of the new parties and everything the game had to offer. Of course, as time progressed Club Penguin would eventually close and my passion for it was still there, so I found this little site. Vintage Penguin- a promise to bring the glory of old Club Penguin as it was when I first started playing. I applied to help design and finally be able to bring my own ideas to life and have others play around in them. I’m just rambling on about my life story, but I just want you to know that this does mean a lot to me. Club Penguin has brought me inspiration to be an artist, to find a future career in Graphic Design, and meet the most amazing bunches of people on the internet. I owe all of it to this little game about penguins. But now, it’s time to set sail for future adventures. Rockhopper Island, perhaps?

This picture is from the original Beta Testing party. Exciting times, huh?

Tootyta12, someone who has worked with me to help put code and reality behind all of the crazy ideas I tried to do, like events, parties, catalogs and fair games, is probably the nicest person I’ve met. He works his hardest with the time he’s allowed, and puts any idea into reality, no matter how crazy. Here’s his message:

Hey, Penguins. I just wanted to say, thanks for making this community my home for the past year. At the beginning of Vintage Penguin, I was going through some very terrible times. Vintage Penguin was the only source that allowed me to push through. Just interacting with you guys and having fun made me happy at those times. Vintage Penguin has allowed me to meet so many of you guys, and has pushed me through the hardest times. I just… I don’t know what I’d do if it wasn’t a part of my life. Thank you all for being such an amazing community. I don’t know where I’ll be after Vintage Penguin’s closure, but I do know that I’ll remember it forever. After Vintage Penguin’s closure, I hope you guys find a new place, and I hope Vintage Penguin remains in your memories forever. Thanks for everything, ~Tootyta/Obs1d1an.

And from Haribo122, another great person who was part of the Vintage staff and helped me get a lot of things done, like the Newspaper and some blog posts:

Hey penguins. It’s been a long ride, one of intrigue, amusement, and wonders. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I wanted to say, that in this bleak moment, I look back at one of the greatest years of my life on the internet. The interactions with the community in which I have resided in for a year have made me smile and bask in glee. I don’t know where I would be without vintage penguin, but I know for sure that I would not be the person you know at this time. Thank you for being such great penguins, and I hope that vintage penguin will be a staple in your memories the same way that I know will for me. Thank you so much, and I hope you all the best of luck in your future endeavours. :tophat: ~Haribo122

The Puffle Party has unfortunately been cancelled, and we will host our April Fools party on April 1st. We’ll also host our Waddle On party at a date that is to be announced.

With you, the community, you’ve inspired us to build an island, and you’ve changed our worlds. I can’t thank all of you enough for that. I will truly remember this for the rest of my life.

“Together, we can build an island, create a community, change the world… and even tip an iceberg.

Waddle on.”

Addressing the Recent Drama

As you may or may not know, Vintage Penguin has been involved in some recent drama over the past few days. There is a group of people, of whom we won’t mention, who have malicious intents towards the CPPS community. These people tend to target all Private Servers, and suspicion rose when we weren’t included in their “list.” Apparently, even more suspicion rose when our other owner, Itay, tweeted out, “Not Today ;)” at one of the recent threats made by this group. Our Owner was simply assuring that this community, the Club Penguin Community, won’t die today. We are an amazing community, we have been together for so long, and we are not about to lose this community. As a result of these suspicions, people were accusing us of making direct deals with this group to perform malicious actions. I had no part in this drama and was unaware of anything before people started making accusations, so, inevitability, Itay was the suspect. Itay and I started working on Vintage Penguin back in 2015 or 2014, I can’t recall very clearly. We had a projected release of much earlier, but we kept changing our minds on era, style, and how our server would be unique from others. We have worked on Vintage Penguin for so long, that I could just not believe that Itay would have any part in this. Especially since Itay…has been drifting away from Vintage Penguin to focus more on his personal matters, such as school and his future. I decided to “interrogate” him with questions based on his recent Tweets and opinions of this group. The conversation went along like this (briefly): .

Itay and I have been good friends for so long, there is no way Itay would’ve ever committed to a deal such as this. He wants Vintage Penguin to be at its best. Usually when I receive messages from him, they are positive and say things such as… “I’m so glad we made Vintage Penguin. Even though it may be small, I just enjoy interacting with the players.” In conclusion, Itay did not make any deals with this group, and these were most likely all false accusations. Although we may be a server that not many know of, we hope that you will still support us all the way through the journey.

March Sneak Peeks!

Hey Penguins!

It’s the third month of the year already. This year is flying by. However, we have a brand new sneak peek for this month’s parties and mini-events.

Say your theories in the comments below, we would love to see what you think all of these could be. It’s going to be a crazy month, but I can’t spoil much more.

Also, we are looking for a new moderator on Vintage Penguin. It has been a while since applications were opened, and our time decided that in better interest for the game’s safety, one more moderator should be hired. Recently, we lost a very important moderator to us, Haribo122. We truly appreciate the service he provided for us on our game, and he has truly made Vintage Penguin a better place. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end eventually. So, without further ado, applications will be opened as of today. To apply for moderator, please submit an email to [email protected], giving your IGN, Age, and why you think you would be a great mod for Vintage Penguin.

Throwback Thursday: Happy Haunts!

Hey Penguins!

It’s our first Throwback Thursday here on the blog, and we’ve got some cool exclusive behind-the-scenes concept art from the Halloween Party 2017 to share with you, as well as some context behind it.

You might notice yours truly in the middle of the room. A player model is used when sketching to help get a sense of how big the scenery around the penguin should be. Bright colors are also used to help differentiate what is what, and to help our artists layer everything correctly. A toolbar and other interface items are also put into place so we don’t add important elements behind them to obscure the buttons.

Did you know: the Vintage Penguin Halloween Party had a whopping 11 completely custom rooms! However, as you can see in the picture above, we planned more. This proved to be a challenge because of the amount of detail needed for each room, and the lack of time to create them. Each room is filled with detail, like a pirate’s treasure chest, or a chair left over from a previous owner. There’s also lots of gravestones that bare the names of staff members and people who helped shape Vintage Penguin. Can you spot them all?

That’s all for this weeks Throwback Thursday! I’d love to share more concept art with you, so give me your feedback on how you like this segment on the blog.

Waddle on!
